Show Me a Marriage of Convenience
An ex-player cowboy with a little son, the boy’s shy plus-size aunt, and a reluctant modern marriage of convenience only the boy is excited about… A sweet, clean, wholesome romance with a happily-ever-after!
After three near-death experiences in one day-okay, maybe burning dinner and falling from a tree shouldn’t count-Kade Clark worries about his son’s future if he’s not around to protect him. The last thing he wants is for his son to become a bargaining chip between a con artist grandfather and a ruthless ex trying to get their hands on the family fortune. So Kade agrees to a crazy proposal from the woman his child adores. But as a former foster kid, Kade learned to walk away before getting hurt. Can he now learn to stay and love?
Heather Johnson dreams of a real marriage with the man her sister abandoned, not a fake one. But the rumor is Kade might leave their small town again and take her darling nephew with him. She’s reluctant to trust a womanizer-husband or not. If she allows love for him to ignite her heart, will her marshmallow-soft heart become roasted and burned?
Cowboy Crossing Romances series set in a small town in the Show Me State is about curvy forty-something women and the swoon-worthy single dad cowboys who love them, though sometimes those rugged handsome men might need a nudge-or a push.
my point of view:
Okay, you guys know me well enough to know how much I adore books with children, but this story is soooo wonderful and I absolutely adored these characters! Heather is such a brave soul to put her heart on the line in trying to keep her promise to her dad and keep her heart intact at the same time! I have no idea how ard it would be to contstanly be living in the shadow of your own sister, but Heather has a heart so big you cannot help but fall in love with her. If only Kade would open his eyes, lol! Both of these charachters have a lot of growing to do, and trusting God is the key to it all.
Alexa has a beautiful way of bringing the people to life right off the page and making you feel as if you are right there with them in every situation. It’s so refreshing to read a story about characters closer to 40 then their teens, and a plus size heroine is always fun! I am so excited over this new series from Alexa and cannot wait to read more of these stories form the Show Me state!
I love marriage of convenience stories because they seem to be the modern equivalent to an arranged marriage. Lust usually isn’t a driving force, at least at first; hopefully there is spark later, of course. Instead common sense reason push the marriage. I think many of us wonder if more marriages would last if our society looked at marriage Was a choice that both parties should made based on determined minds, not on sweaty hands.
Loved the way you put it, Frankie! Marriage based on determined minds. From what I heard, marriages of convenience often last longer than usual marriages. Thank you for commenting!
This is such an amazing book. I was hooked from the very beginning and did not want to put it down. Alexa is one amazing author.
Awww, Terry, thank you for your kind words! You’re very sweet.
It’s a great story! Love it <3
I've smiled like an idiot while reading 😉
Natalya, lol! Glad that you enjoyed it and that it made you smile.

Autumn, awww, thank you so much and thank you for all your help!
I love marriage of convenience stories because I like to see what the convenience is all about and what they all have to go through while trying to hide what the convenience is all about and why they are doing it.
Thank you, Alicia!
I LOVED this book!! I especially loved the way they both and to change their thinking and “grow up” a bit!! Another great book by Alexa!!
Trudy, awww, so glad you liked the book and the characters’ growth!
Such a cute cover. I like them because I like to see what they go through to make the relationship work. The good and bad time. Thanks for the chance.
Thank you for the kind words about the cover, Lynn! Best wishes in the giveaway!
Well since so many countries still do arranged marriages, etc, it’s interesting to see how it may work out. I can’t imagine marrying someone for something other than love but it happens so often in our world. To me it’d be scary. 😳😳😳
Vicki, thank you for commenting! So true, many countries still do arranged marriages. Yes, it’s a very scary step to marry someone you don’t love yet!
I am new to the marriage of convenience concept, as I have only read one that I know of.
It’s a tricky concept, because I believe marriage is a covenant for life. If the idea is to marry with the idea of divorcing when a convenient opportunity arises, it is a little troubling.
However, the books Alexa writes are safe to me, as I know that in the long run the couple will fall in love and live happily ever after.
Susan, I agree, marriage with the idea of divorce down the road would be troubling to me, too! Thankfully, we know that in these books, true love will emerge. Thank you for commenting!
I enjoy some marriage of convenience books and some I don’t. It depends on the situation and why they choose the marriage of convenience, yet I always like a HEA!
I’ve read this book and it is absolutely adorable! Could hardly put it down! 🙂
Terry, thank you from the bottom of my heart! So glad you loved this book!

I adore marriage of convenience stories. There’s something special about falling in love without the worry over “will he, won’t he” ask for a date/etc. It’s like the usual pressure is off and they can just let it happen.
Amy, I loved this answer! So true, “the usual pressure is off”! Thank you very much for commenting!
Love this review and loved this book! I think it was Alexa’s best to date. The characters came alive and I feel like I was watching the whole story! Even if it was in my head, lol!
Carol, you’ll make me cry in a good way! So thrilled you loved my book! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Would like to see the story work out where the couple actually gets along together marriage-wise, in the sense of appreciating one another, and allowing the Lord to lead in their future. Thanks for the opportunity to enter a giveaway! Would love to win a print copy!

So good. I’ve loved all of Alexa Verde’s books that I’ve read. This one was one of my favorites. I enjoy “watching” the changes her characters go through as their faith increases.
Teresa, thank you so much for your support and your kind words! And so glad this book is one of your favorites.
I like marriage of convenience stories, especially when it’s done because it helps one, and the other is just doing it to provide that help.
Lisa, I agree, helping someone else a great reason for marriage of convenience stories. Thank you for stopping by!
I enjoy marriage-of- convenience stories because mamy of them turn into a true love match. Their desire to help each other shows them just how special they are!
Connie, that’s so true! And seeing how it turns out to be a true love match is fascinating!
I loved this story!! It was really sweet and I loved how their prejudices melted and dissolved as they got to know one another as they truly were!! With a beauty that’s not based on appearances!! It was the sweetest love story!! I fell in love with Kade and Heather!! And Landon of course!!
Marriage of convenience is one of my favorite tropes because it’s usually not love at first sight but of getting to know one another!!!
Awww, you’re so sweet, Paty! Your words are music to my ears.
I love stories with children. Their open communication can really cause some off kilter moments.
Shirley, I agree! That’s why stories with children can be so much fun! Thank you for commenting.
I love all your stories. It is refreshing and nice to pick a story to read and know that it is a clean story. For prolific readers as myself it can be frustrating to find good and interesting stories. Thanks to all the writers who care about the message their stories share.
Lois, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your wonderful words!
Woohoo, congratulations on a new series. I love reading stories about marriages of convenience. It’s like a Mail order bride story in a different era. When kids are involved it is even more special. These stories allow God to work in the hearts of each person involved and show them that they were meant to be together for a reason.
I love reading Jessie Gussman’s Cowboy Crossing Western Sweet Romance series as well.
Betty, I agree, it’s similar to mail order brides in a different era. And Jessie is awesome! She is the reason I started this series.
Please enter me in the $5.00 Gift Card Giveaway. I love reading your books.
Linda, thrilled to hear you love my books. And got your entry.
I loved the children in the stories most of all, and each time I read a new Alexa Verde book, I am impressed anew with her excellent writing skills that make you feel like you’re right there in the action!
Take care of yourself, dear author, we need any more!
Louise, I love you to pieces and praying for you!
Marriage of convenience books give me a different perspective just like mail order bride books do. Love your books!
Sharon, thrilled to hear that you love my books! And true, marriage of convenience books give a different perspective.
Yes,I like marriage of convenience stories as long as there is no cliff hanger and it has a HEA!
Oh yes! And thank you for commenting!
I lived in India for a short while, and arranged marriages are the norm there. I remember my neighbor’s daughter meeting her intended for the first time … at their betrothal! The excitement, the apprehension.
Marriages of convenience are similar. It makes for a very interesting read.
Denise, it must have been fascinating to live in India. And wow on your neighbor meeting her intended at their betrothal! Thank you for sharing.
I love a good marriage of convenience book as the perfect ending to the day! I want a happily-ever-after story!!
Kimberly, a perfect ending for the day indeed! Thank you for commenting!
I love how relying on each other builds bonds. It’s normally unexpected for both parties. It’s feel good and shows commitment.
Michaela, yes! Loved your answer!
Love all the fall colours which are popping up in books and blogs. Bring Fall on! Blessings to all.
And to you, too!
I like marriages of convenience because they show how God can make something beautiful when we don’t expect it.
Amen!
Thank you to all you authors who write sweet, clean (or at least clean!) fiction; nowadays it can be a real challenge to find reading matter that doesn’t cause us to sin (the thought is father of the deed…)!
Mary, and we’re very grateful to the readers who read our sweet and clean books! Thank you so much!
I find it interesting reading a marriage of convenience story as fiction. With its ups and downs and then finally in the end a happy ever after. I just could not imagine this in real life, but I do enjoy reading it.
Judy, modern marriage of convenience sounds like an unlikely but such an interesting scenario! I like this trope. Thank you for commenting!
