my point of view: More Than Words Can Say by Karen Witemeyer

November 21, 2019 in my point of view

After fulfilling a pledge to a dying friend, Zacharias Hamilton is finally free. No family entanglements. No disappointing those around him. Just the quiet bachelor existence he’s always craved. Until fate snatches his freedom away when the baker of his favorite breakfast bun is railroaded by the city council. Despite not wanting to get involved, he can’t turn a blind eye to her predicament . . . or her adorable dimples.

Abigail Kemp needs a man’s name on her bakery’s deed. A marriage of convenience seems the best solution . . . if it involves a man she can control. That person definitely isn’t the stoic lumberman who oozes silent confidence whenever he enters her shop. Control Zacharias Hamilton? She can’t even control her pulse when she’s around him.

When vows are spoken, Abigail’s troubles should be over. Yet threats to the bakery worsen, and darker dangers hound her sister. Can she put ever more trust in Zach without losing her dreams of independence?

    my point of view:

I must admit, I have heard so many fellow readers recommend Karen Witemeyer, but I had not read anything by her until now. What a fun book to start with, too! I just love reading about an independent woman, and in Texas in 1896, this is not an easy thing to accomplish! Abigail Kemp is forced to make a choice when the city council upholds an antiquated ordinance stating a woman cannot own business property within the city limits.

She either needs to sell the property and close her family’s bakery – or find a man she can trust enough to marry and place his name on the deed. This marriage of convenience story has it all, romance, friendships, a little mystery….and a lot of forgiveness needing to be found by the main characters. Abigail has her own issues to overcome, always being told she was not ‘good enough’ she has a hard time believing a man like Zach could actually fall in love with her. Zach has his own insecurities from his past to deal with as well, but these two come together so beautifully, with their encouragement and support of one another, there is a lesson to be learned by all who read it!

Sometimes it takes a difficult situation to make us really turn to God, as these characters soon realize. When you put your trust into The One that matters, He will work all things for the good! I, for one, am so glad to have found this author, and cannot wait to read more of her books!

So glad you found this story (and this author). I have read a lot of her Karen Witemeyer’s books. My most favourite ones are A Worthy Pursuit and To Win Her Heart, but More Than Words Can Say is a really great story too. We first meet Zach in More Than Meets the Eye so I loved reading about his own HEA.

So loved this book! I just finished her novella about Rosalind Kemp, More Than a Pretty Face, in the Serving Up Love Collection. My only complaint — it was a novella and I wanted a full novel for Rosalind!
