Could she ever share the secret of The Awful Year?
There is one story that novelist Josephine Bourdillon shirked from writing. And now she may never have a chance. Trapped in her memories, she lies in a coma.
The man who put her there is just as paralyzed. Former soldier Henry Hughes failed to complete the kill. What’s more: he never received full payment–funds that would ensure surgery for his son.
As detectives investigate disturbing fan letters, a young but not-so-naïve Paige Bourdillon turns to her mother’s turbulent past for answers. Could The Awful Year be worse than the one they’re living now?
Set against the flaming hills of North Carolina and the peaceful shores of the Mediterranean Sea, When I Close My Eyes tells the story of two families struggling with dysfunction and finding that love is stronger than death.
My favorite is romance with a little suspense in it but I often read other genre if I hear a lot of good things about a book.
Yes, Sherry, nothing like a little suspense to get the heart racing!
I love Christian romance but do read other genres. Actually, I’ll read about anything.
Lol, Mary, I know what you mean! I used to be accused of reading cereal boxes and the phone book if need be 🤣
I’m never sure what “Christian fiction” is these days. Lately I have really enjoyed “Christian sci-fi” by Chautona Havig but I also like Historical Christian fiction.
As a retired ordained minister, I could easily “brush off” this question because I know a lot of people of faith argue that Christians should only read a narrow genre. But I read across genres (317 in 2019 and reviewed every one) and I think I’m more well-rounded because of it
That is beautifully said, Andrea, and I couldn’t agree with you more!
My favorite trope is the Christian who “preaches” by the life he or she lives, not by verbal assertions. And in living the good life, the character withstands and overcomes trials. Is this a dual time line or memories through back story. Would love to read it . Thank you for the giveaway
Very true, Julia, I try to live my life that way too!
I love Christian based romantic suspense novels.
This novel sounds very good. I would love to read it.
Thank you for the giveaway.
You will enjoy this story then, Denise! It’s really good😀
I like Christian Suspense, Historical Fiction and stories that deal with hot button topics. I enjoy reading about those who make decisions (either before becoming a Christian or while turning their back on God) that show life long consequences for their actions. I find these so true to life!
Thanks for this opportunity!
Nicely said, Deb! I agree with your choices too!
Christmas
Lol, Shirley, I am one who can read Christmas stories any time of the year ❤️
I like all Christian fiction! I do like suspense a lot, it’s one of my top favorites, but really, all are fine with me! I like all of my fiction to be “real”, and it doesn’t bother me if it reflects issues from real life. It may show me a better way to look at things, or at least make me stop to think.
You and I are so much alike, Trudy!!
My all time reads are mail-order bride series!!!
I have read a few of those, Kathy, and enjoyed them very much!
I like suspense christain.
Yes, Judy, a favorite of mine too!
My favorite is Christian romantic suspense.
One of mine as well, Lisa! I appreciate you visiting with us!
I love Christian Romance!
Thanks for sharing this review! Also – I adore the title and cover of this book straight away and the premise is intriguing 😀
Yes, Sarah, it was a great story, with several surprises!
I guess you could call my favorite Christian genre women’s fiction. I live reading stories about real life situations and how people handle the tough times.
Me too, Nancy! Thank you for sharing!
This. Sounds. Amazing.
A year ago I would not hesitate to say Christian romance is my favorite genre. I do love reading it. But over the past year I have started getting into Christian literary fiction. I’ve discovered I like my books with the same focus on God, but with a little more meat on the bones. I like digging into the books that touch deeper subjects. Now, I will always open a romance, but definitely lean more towards the literary books.
I hear you, Erica….I like the more meatier books as well, and romance is always wonderful…just nice to change it up sometimes!
I enjoy several kinds of Christian Fiction but my very favorite is Historical Fiction and next would be Women’s Fiction. Thanks for the giveaway!
Thank you for sharing, Brenda! I love historical too, I always thought I was born in the “wrong” time, lol!
