Welcome to Pettett & Mayfield, a once-grand central London department store now fallen on harder times, despite the eccentric owner’s schemes to attract customers. But from the basement kitchenware department through to the top floor management offices, love and faith can still find a home.
You never forget your first love…
With her eye for design and her cut-glass accent, no-one would guess Beth Forrest’s impoverished background. It’s all throw pillows, china patterns, and upper class brides as she manages the Wedding Registry at Pettett & Mayfield, the stately maiden aunt of London department stores. So it’s not quite her dream job? Each bride she helps to select beautiful and oh-so-expensive items for their gift list brings her one step closer to buying a little home of her own, and financing the education she longs for.
When physics professor James Tetherton-Hart, brilliant in his research lab but awkward and disorganised in everyday life, comes to the store in desperate need of both a gift and a partner for a wedding that evening and recognises her, all her careful plans and meticulous checklists are turned upside down.
Now her first love is back, determined to make her his partner for life, not just the evening. But unless Beth can let go of the mistaken beliefs that separated them in the past, and appreciate the depth and breadth of God’s love for us all, her only gift from the wedding will be another heartbreak.
Book 1 in the Love in Store series, set in a London department store. Series may be read in any order, as every story is a complete romance featuring a different couple. Clean, sweet, and wholesome Christian inspirational romance from a USA Today bestselling author!
My nephew is getting married in October & one of the things I adored (&ordered for them) was a magnetic message board that had Love you to the moon & back printed on it. So cute but also useful in the busy lives we lead. Thank you.
That sounds adorable, Robin! Also my favorite saying for the most special people in my life!
I like to buy items for the kitchen. Slow cookers, waffle makers, pots or pans. Our entire family sits down together for dinner every night. I think it is very important to have that time to chat and catch up.
Yes, Jaclyn! I could not live without my slow cooker…well, I guess I could live without it…but meals would not be half as good😁!
Love this book. It was the first book of Autumns I read. I was hooked. Have read the series and many of her other books since.
I know, right, Cindy! Such a great book to start with!
My new item is the Instapot. My sister has one and it is the best. There are so many things you can do with it. I would love to gift that to a couple just starting out.
Oh, wow, Sonnetta – I have been so shy about trying one of these out, she really loves it? I may have to investigate further, lol!
We always look to see if there is a coffee pot on their list, because that is our favorite thing to buy. Autumn is one of my favorite authors, and I have enjoyed every book of hers!
COFFEE!! Yes, Becky, that is the best gift ever! We are so addicted in our house that we always have a “spare” coffee maker in the closet if the one we use should suddenly stop working! HAHAHA – true story!
I think a great gift is to take a wedding picture of the couple and put it on canvass. It is a gift of remembrance and more sentimental than the usual gift registry items.
What a lovely idea, Jennifer! I must remember this for future weddings! Thank you for sharing!
It would be an Instant Pot. They are better than a slow cooker because they do so many different things.
Thank you, Susan! I really need to look into the Instant Pot!
It would have to be an Instant Pot because they are so much better than a slow cooker because they can do so many different things.
Thanks so much for hosting the giveaway, Paula! And thank you to everyone for commenting! 🙂
My absolute pleasure!
I like finding things unique for the couple, if I know them well. If I don’t know them that well, I buy the item(s) I can afford on their list!!!
LOL, Trudy, I have done that a time or two….sort by price, please, lol!
I always enjoy buying kitchen items from the bridal registry. I am going to a shower next weekend. I got the bride some mixing bowls. I will get another request this weekend – a frying pan or baking dish. I always picture the couple using the items!
All of which are great choices, Maryann! Thank you for sharing!
A toaster oven! Every new couple can use that! I read Autumn’s book in 2016! Loved it!
Great idea, Linda! You know, I have never owned or used one of those🤔
I usually like to buy the couple something to do with cooking like blenders, cookware, utensils, crockpots.
Yes, I love anything that has me whipping up goodies in the kitchen! Great choices, Linda Marie, thank you for sharing!
Typically kitchen items (to encourage eating together at home), Coffee pots are great and I have looked for special mugs (like for Irish Coffee) and a selection of gourmet coffee blends to go with the machine to help make it a special gift.
Mmm, you had me at coffee, Linda, hahaha!
If the couple likes coffee maybe a keurig and some coffee. I think some nice towels are always nice, if they are on the list. Your book sounds like a very good read, I would love to read your book.Thank you for the chance. Have a Great rest of the day and week. God Bless you.
Great ideas, Alicia! I can never have enough towels😁
I always enjoy buying the wedding couple a bottle of wine and some wine. Plus I get them a gift card to rent some movies and some popcorn. I put it in a nice basket for them. I figure after everything settles down they will want a relaxing night at home alone.
What a lovely idea, Barbara! I really like the though behind this…..I may “borrow” this idea for a future gift! Thank you so much for sharing!
My favorite item to find on a wedding gift is basically anything kitchen related. Since I love to cook/bake, getting to shop in those departments is exciting to me. I also love to include some of my tried and true recipes. A lot of them I’ve refined through the years for just two – for hubby and I – which makes them perfect for a couple of newlyweds.
Thank you for the wonderful opportunity to win a copy of “The Wedding List”! The fact that it’s a large print edition is an extra and much appreciated bonus to me. Shared and hoping. Can’t wait to read it.
Hi, Kay! I do something like that too! I create a notebook of my favorite recipes and put them in plastic page covers in a three ring binder! A recipe box would be lovely too, but then I would have to hand write them all, and well, printing is much easier, lol! Thank you so much for sharing!
I like buying digital photo albums so they can have memories of the special day and add others throughout the years.
That is a wonderful idea, Angela! I have only seen a few of those, but they do make an impact, don’t they? Appreciate you visiting with us today!
Hi! First of all, thank you for the free ebook! I just downloaded it, so I’m looking forward to reading it! My favorite wedding gift to give (odd I know) is a coffee pot… this means the new couple will wake up every morning and have the opportunity to share a start to their day! And if I win the actual book, I’d love to have it autographed!
Nothing odd about coffee, Terresa, lol!! I love how you express the newlyweds starting their day together, that is so sweet! The winner of the book will be getting it shipped directly from Amazon, so it will not be autographed, sorry!
I like to see a lot of the small individual items (specific kitchen utensils) and then I will purchase several of them and a container that sits on the counter to hold them along with maybe kitchen towels and dishcloths.
Thank you for the chance to win.
This is an awesome idea, Teresa! I love my kitchen tools…lol! The last time we moved the container was damaged, so now they reside in a large drawer… I miss that counter top container though!
My favorite things from my wedding are an advice book, filled out by my loved ones and my mom and aunt put together an amazing snack basket for our wedding night and honeymoon.
Thank you, Autumn for sharing your incredible talent with us.
Oooo, I like this, Liberty! Very cool ideas! Thank you for sharing!
I thoroughly enjoy your books Autumn. You have such a gift.
I concur, 100% Jamie!!
I like to buy a basket and fill them with kitchen utensils and hand towels or pot holders. Hopefully they are registered at one of the department stores so I can purchase items right off there list.
That is such a great idea, I used to own a gift basket business many years ago and would actually use a colander as the basket, and add spaghetti and goodies too as a gift. They were great housewarming gifts too!
For some reason I always like to purchase towels. I love pretty kitchen towels and hand towels. Ones that are unique.
I bet they love those towels just as much, Judy! Thank you for visiting with us today!
I hate shopping so I love when the couple asks for gift cards.
Ha! I know, Sandra! I am not a shopper either….I just live the internet!
I haven’t read the Wedding List yet, but I love to read Christian inspirational romance so it is in my Kindle app library.
Hi, Pam! So glad you are able to get this one for free then! You will love it!
This book sounds really cute. I like if something’s pretty or really needed, like if no one had bought any towels yet.
Oh, yes, another towel favorite! Thank you for sharing, Veronica!
I’ve read 2 books in the Love in Store series and throughly enjoyed them. I look forward to reading more.
Hi, Janice! So glad you have been enjoying Autumn’s books! They are always a great read, appreciate you sharing today!
I love to give something that is beautiful and permanent so it will give the couple something to remember their wedding day forever, not something that will be used up or wears out.
Excellent thought, Gladys! I am very sentimental, so I completely agree❤️
One time I cross stitched a good friends names and
Wedding date and framed it as part of the gift.
I bet they treasure that gift, Gina! How sweet of you!
Am I the only one to find these new-fangled “wedding lists” tacky? As a widow on an extremely limited budget, I will either make something or shop locally for something I think they might like.
I will be honest with you, Barbara….when the registries first became popular I thought, well ‘how rude’ telling us what we can buy for you….lol…but the more I started looking at them, I realized if nothing else, you can get a sense of what the couple’s tastes are! Do I always purchase off the lists? No…but I do occasionally.
I am sure that anyone would love a homemade gift as you suggested, I know I would!
I love to buy a recipe box and fill it with my own favorite recipes and some of my tips I have learned through the years. I then like to buy some of my favorite things I use to cook & bake with many people wouldn’t think about. I often include small church cookbooks (those have great recipes!), hot pads, flour sifters, cookie cutters, etc I personalize what I give according to the likes of the couple if possible.
Lovely ideas, Deb!I can never get enough of those types of things ❤️!
I use to work in the domestics dept of a local store, so most of my wedding gifts were bedding, towels, pillows, etc. definitely every day needs and practical items. What a help when your starting out together! I appreciated those same gifts myself when I got married.
Agreed, Melissa, all wonderful gifts when a couple is just starting out!
A family Bible
Beautiful gift suggestion, Rose!🙏
I love Fiesta dinnerware which comes in a large variety of colors and it all matches. If I know the couple would enjoy that I will buy a place setting or two. Motherwise, it’s a gift card or check.
Oh my, I adore Fiesta ware! Nice tip, Perrianne!
I usually buy a crockpot, and bags, because they usually both work and it saves time. Love the series, would love to win. Tks for chance
I love my crockpot! The crockpot bags are actually a newer find for me, in the last year, and what a time saver they are!! Thank you for visiting with us, Susie!
My favorite wedding gift to give is something pretty for their house or apartment. I like to find out their colors and decor ideas. Sometimes it is fun to pick something from their wedding list in that catagory. Thanks for publishing large print books. They are so much easier to read.
Thanks for sharing, Rose! I bet your gifts are well received!
Hi Autumn and thank you for the giveaway of a print copy I always like to get the couple something for the kitchen a slow cooker is always so nice to have!
I love those print copies too, Sarah! And kitchen supplies 😁!
I like to make a wooden picture frame and get a picture of the bride and groom (a picture from school preferably) and engrave love you on the frame.
How beautiful that sounds, Deborah! They must treasure such a handmade gift from you!
I love to see cookbooks on the list. I have some wonderful cookbooks that I always like to give as shower and wedding gifts and a crock pot to go along. I have six crockpots myself and shelves of cookbooks. I also love giving tea towels.
Wow, Sandralee! Six crockpots, that is amazing! Lovely ideas for gifts!❤️
I don’t give wedding gifts as everyone is already married. However, if I did need to purchase a gift, it would either be a gift card or small appliance as every new couple needs something in the kitchen or bathroom. Thank you, Autumn, for the generous giveaway. I love how this is large print as that is the only physical books I can read at this time (eyes have been giving me major issues lately following a two month allergy mayhem!) And thank you, Paula Marie, for hosting this giveaway!
It is an honor for me to bring you all this story, Cheryl! I know about needing those large prints, too😖!
I like to get a recipe box, and have family and friends give copies of recipes for the couple. And maybe add something like a utensil or dish or some other item that is needed for the recipe. Or even ingredients. When my niece got married my mom bought them a cooler and the recipe and all the ingredients for mom’s cheesecake that she absolutely loves.
I love these ideas, Kathy! Thank you for sharing!
I like to by personalized things like wedding frames or wedding albums!
Always nice to have sentimental gifts like that, Linda! Appreciate you sharing!
