A Love Song for Kayla by Kimberly Rose Johnson, reprinted with author’s permission:
When two strangers cross paths their lives are forever altered.
Kayla Russel has all but given up on finding love until a new guy to town walks into her flower shop. There is something mysterious about him that intrigues her, but when she finds out the truth everything changes.
Derek Parker wants to leave his old life behind, but it proves to be harder than he’d anticipated when his past finds him. Now the woman he has come to care for feels deceived.
Will his secrets come between them and destroy what could have been something wonderful?
Previously published under the title A Valentine for Kayla.
my point of view:
This was quite a fun read! I have read many of books by this author, and this one ranks at the top for me! How many times are people so disappointed in Valentine’s Day traditions? The thought of a florist business owner who can’t stand Valentine’s Day is hilarious, so let’s meet Kayla!
Kayla is by far a sweetheart, she is so generous of her time to everyone around her, and I just love that about her! Her dedication to her friends and business is such a blessing to everyone around her….but she cannot seem to find the love of her life. Why? Maybe her list of requirements is a little too long and not very practical? I mean, is there really a perfect human man?
Enter Derek….his life was once spinning out of his control, so he has decided to take it into his own hands and put a stop to his past wrongs and try to orchestrate his future on his terms. Trying to keep his past a secret in this new town he wants to call home is not going to be easy though, and he ends up hurting those he cares about when the truth comes out.
Now let’s mix in a vindictive ex girlfriend, a mother recovering from a stroke, a business partner who is in the midst of falling in love with a co-worker, a serious and possibly dangerous mystery, and Hollywood paparazzi descending upon their small town! How will Kayla and Derek ever find their way to each other?
Both of these main characters have huge hearts and want God’s best for their lives, the journey they take to get there, with each other, is one I am so glad to have been able to a part of!

My favorite flower would be an antique rose. Followed by a daisy which my Grandpa grew like crazy and was always willing to share with anyone for any occasion.
Those are two of my favorites too!
oh, I love Daisies too, I liked that line about Daisies being a friendly flower! Thank you for stopping by, Perrianne!!
How wonderful to see Kimberly here on your blog! Just wanted to say hello. I have A Love Song for Kayla and enjoyed it so much! Don’t enter me in the drawing, but I’ll share that my favorite flower is a yellow rose. That’s true for several reasons (the daffodil runs a close second). My father nurtured his rose garden with tender loving care, and because of that, I always smile whenever I see a beautiful rose (of any color). Unfortunately, I didn’t inherit his green thumb. Blessings to you both!
Thank you, JoAnn. It’s so nice of you stop take the time to comment. Roses are such a beautiful flower. My grandpa grew them and had quite the knack. I am not a good gardener and pretty much kill anything that grows indoors.
Hi, JoAnn!! Thank you so much for being here! I know what you mean, I have a black thumb myself! I love roses too, though!
Wow, my father had rose garden too! I’m not the gardener 🙁 no time
Hi Natalya! I certainly understand the time factor, too (or lack of time, and I’m sure Kimberly and Paula do, as well). My husband, Jim, sang the familiar hymn “In The Garden” at my Dad’s funeral service. I know he would have loved it.
I bet that was beautiful, JoAnn! For me it’s not just a time factor, it is the black thumbs I have that kill all plants, LOL!
I love lilacs and hollyhocks—flowers I can enjoy without having a green thumb!!
I grew up with a lilac tree under my window……..yes, Kimberly – LOVE the smell!! Unfortunately they do not do well in hot Florida! Thank you for dropping by, Jill! I thought you would go with your namesake flower, lol!!
Mmm lilacs smell so good!
I like Batchelor Buttons!
Okay, admit I needed to google them, but they are so pretty!! Must not be grown in Florida, I do not recall ever seeing them in person!
Thank you for introducing me to them, Teresa!
I’m in the same boat as Paula. I needed to look them up too but then discovered I’ve actually had those in my yard. 🙂
Whew, glad I wasn’t the only one, but how lucky you have them in your yard!
I keep saying I am going to get wildflower seeds and cover the whole front yard so I don’t have to mess with grass anymore!
I don’t have them anymore. They died. I’m not a good gardener.
Sorry , same here!
I like carnations because they last longer. But the yellow tulips on the cover are beautiful too 🙂
I adore the look of carnations, Natalya, but they don’t smell all that nice, lol! You are so correct they last a long time!! Thank you for sharing with us today!
Carnations always smell so fresh. 🙂
I love the sweet smell of roses! Thanks for the chance to win!
Thank you, Terry! Best of luck in the draw, always appreciate you stopping by!
Me too. We have a neighbor that grows them on the edge of their yard and I love to stop and smell them. 🙂
Great review! Seems like an interesting book. My favorite flower is probably a tie between hydrangeas and the Passion flower. 😊
Thank you for sharing, Crystal! I love hydrangeas too!!
I love hydrangeas but our plant died.
My favorite flower is a rose of course! Thank you!
Makes sense to me. 🙂
Well, ROSE, you really didn’t have much of choice, did you? hahaha! Thank you so much for stopping by, it is always such a pleasure to see you here!
My favorite flower is buddleia it’s commonly just called “Butterfly Bush.” and lilacs.
Well, I am learning so much! Thank you Tina, I needed to Google this flower as well, and they are beautiful! Lilacs are high on my list as a favorite too. My very favorite is gardenias though….oh their scent is wonderful!!
Thanks for joining us, Tina!!
I love buttery fly bushes and lilac bushes. I have one of each in my yard. 🙂
Favorite flowers are daffodils. They push their heads up at the first sign of spring and add a spot of beauty to my yard.
Daffodils are so pretty! We used to have them all along our driveway when I was a kid.
