The tragic death of Shelby Dodson’s husband—her partner in a successful Home Network house flipping business—stole love, status, and career. Now a bungalow redesign thrusts Shelby into the company of a new contractor. Scott Matthews remembers high-and-mighty Shelby from high school, and her prissy, contemporary style goes against his down-to-earth grain. When the house reveals a mystery, will its dark secrets—and their own mistakes—cost them a second chance at love?
my point of view:
Okay, first of all I am going to admit it, I am a huge follower of home renovation shows…I absolutely love them. I truly do not watch a lot of television, but if I am not watching a football game, you can pretty much depend on either a cooking show or a home reno show being on my television, lol!
So when I had the chance to read this story, I jumped all in! I have to be honest, when I first started reading it I was trying to compare, or ‘picture’ my favorite reality TV reno stars in their place, but it did not last long, as the story’s characters truly shined in their own right. Which is a great thing, because I just fell in love with Scott Mathews, lol. All of the characters were well worth the read, and the writing style of Denise Weimer was right up my alley, so this makes it very easy for me to recommend this story.
The best part of the novel, for me, was seeing Shelby really come into her own. It is not easy leading a life that is shadowed by those around you, Shelby’s deceased husband was a ‘larger than life’ personality, and it seemed like Shelby was not only along for the ride, but had her own wishes and desires put on hold to fulfill her husbands.Watching her grow more confident day by day (page by page?) as she learned to trust herself and trust in God was truly wonderful. The same for Scott and his insecurities being addressed. It was fun to watch him learn a little about relationships and cooking, lol, from an older generation!
This story also had a bonus sideline – a mystery to follow and solve! I enjoyed how Shelby became determined to piece together the unsolved case of the former owners of the home they renovating….had me a little frightened sometimes about the outcome, but the resolution was quite surprising for me!

I love those shows. I watch Love it or Leave it. I have more of a traditional style in my house.
Hi, Beth! I love David and Hillary, one of my favorite shows too!! Thanks for joining us today!
Though I’m not a television watcher, my favorite home remodel is the kind that transforms my “house” into my “home”…. a place that speaks of my preferences, and those aren’t always “the latest fad”. & I LOVE to read!
That sounds perfect, Terresa! Appreciate you visiting with us today 😊
As far as looks go, I love Victorian homes. But for my own home, I want something low maintenance. We built 4 years ago and decided on a simple (though large) ranch.
I’m adding Fall Flip to my wish list. I don’t believe I’ve read any books by Denise.
Victorian is my favorite too, Sherri…but these days I would never get to the second floor with my knees! This was my first time reading Denise as well…won’t be the last!
Good morning, ladies! Thanks to Paula Marie for hosting me and for her amazing review. And to Beth and Sherri for stopping by. My current home has some Craftsman touches in the interior but is brick on the outside. I love Victorian homes as well but have to admit I really enjoy my coffered ceilings and five-panel doors. 🙂
Thank you, Denise! Craftsman would be my second choice after Victorian for sure!
One with a wrap around porch.
Susan, yesss! My current home just has a stoop, and I sure miss a big front porch. 🙂
Oh yes, Susan! That is lovely!
I don’t know that I have a particular style of house that I like, but the house I always pictured having had a wrap around porch on it. I mean ALL the way around, too!! Part of it was screened, and part not. Now, I finally have a back porch. I’m happy with it, and kinda glad I don’t have a total wrap around!
I have just a tiny screened back porch, Trudy. Did it was bigger🙄
Hey, Trudy, my current house has a small back porch, not screened. I miss having a big screened back porch where I can write. 🙂
I’m a traditional/country style home gal! We currently live in a small home we call a “cabin”, but I love it!
Thanks for the chance to win this book.
That’s all that matters, Terry!
You are most welcome, Terry. Thanks for stopping by.
This book sounds like a great one! An additional plus – a new (to me) author!!! Watching home renovation shows is the only thing I do really watch on TV, but can honestly say that I have never read a book about it. I’ll have to check it out.
It is really a lot of fun, Erica, reading what it may be like behind the scenes!
Thanks, Erica! Hopefully reading Fall Flip will be a fun experience.
I love watching Skip and Johanna Gaines shows, and flip or flop, also the series by the twin brothers as well. My favorite type of house I would say is traditional.
Geneva, I enjoy a number of the house flipping shows as well. I’d say they all mingled together to provide inspiration for this story. 🙂
I love them too, Geneva!
I’m intrigued by the mystery part 🤓
I enjoy weaving a touch of mystery into a number of my books. A subplot, if you will. It provides great character development!
It is really a great sideline story, Natalya!
Putting Fall Flip in my que if next books.
Thanks, Cele!
Yay! I like hearing that, Cele!
I like traditional/contemporary mix style. The open areas are nice, but not in an extreme way.
I wish I could watch more home improvement shows, but we don’t have cable.
Hi, Linda! Maybe you can get some online?
Linda, I agree about open areas for entertaining, but I sure wish I had my own office with a door that closed! LOL
I prefer a traditional home like my 75+ year old home but I do really like the vintage farmhouse look!
They are lovely,Joan!
I bet your house is beautiful, Joan!
I prefer traditional. I can’t wait to read this book!
Hope you enjoy it!
Yay! Thanks so much, Joy. And if you get to, I sure do value reviews. 🙂
I would have loved an old country farmhouse with a wraparound porch.
I always adore a porch, Sherry!
Ah, yes, the better to decorate seasonally!
Traditional historic homes are my favorites. Victorian.
I love Victorian too, Medenna!
Same! Good luck, Medenna.
